What To See And Do On Whidbey Island

We have been going to Whidbey Island for camping and vacations for years! Summer doesn’t feel like summer without a trip to Islandland. There have been only two summers we haven’t gone; the summer just felt incomplete without it.

I have included links to some great products I have bought and love. You can also buy them through my online sales links. In addition, this post contains affiliate links that will earn me a small commission when you use them to order online.

Now, we always take the Mukilteo to ClintoIslandy to the Island! The kids love to walk around the ferry ship, watch the land disappear, and watch the ferry dock! Isabella is always on the lookout for Orca Whales, but so far, we have not been able to see any whales while on the ferry.

If you haven’t been to Whidbey Island, the Island is connected by a long Highway 525 that turns into Highway 20. Once you get off the ferry, the first thing that greets you is a cute sign, and as you start to drive to all the fun destinations!

Welcome to Whidbey Island Sign as you get off the ferry boat

FORT CASEY ON WHIDBEY ISLAND:

As you go along 525 (that will turn into Highway 20), the first big destination is Fort Casey! This Fort was, and is, our favorite stop to explore every trip! It seems like every time we go, we find something new. You can explore the bunkers and see Admiral Lighthouse!! (See my post -> here)

FORT EBEY ON WHIDBEY ISLAND:

2018 was the first time we explored Fort Ebey State Park. The favorite part for my kids was exploring the bunkers; the bunkers were dark and fun with the flashlights. My favorite part was the tide pools and seeing the little sea creatures. There are a ton of trails to hike to and great camping, too! (See my post -> here)

COUPEVILLE ON WHIDBEY ISLAND:

This cute town is perfect for shopping and seeing more of what life is like on Whidbey Island! I need to hit this town without my kids; they get bored since there aren’t many shops geared towards them. Mom has picked up some great gifts and home decor from the shops.

OAK HARBOR ON WHIDBEY ISLAND

This is the closest town to our stay: Cliffside RV Park on Naval Air Station Whidbey Island. We love to hit up the farmers market in Oak Harbor if it falls right with our trip. There are so many local vendors and food to try. (See their Facebook page->  here.) We love to walk and explore the shops! The kids always have a blast with the different statues along the road for the shops.

Now, we also tend to have dinner one night at Island Cafe (see their Facebook page -> here) and pizza on our final night from Island Pizza (see their Facebook page -> here). Even though we tend to do a lot of cooking while camping, let’s face it, it’s nice not to cook, too.

Jennifer and Michael Kayaking Oak harbor

Oak Harbor was also the first place I kayaked back in 2013. We don’t like to kayak out in the ocean, so finding calm water for the kid is perfect here. We have also seen jellyfish here, and the kids fish off the dock.

DECEPTION STATE PARK ON WHIDBEY ISLAND

This park is a must-stop every year for us as well. We always load lunch, kayaks, paddleboards (if we can rent them), and fishing poles for the day. My son caught his first fish here as well. Not only is there a lot to see in the park, but it’s almost a guarantee to see Bald Eagles here as well. (See my post for more information -> here)
