The Union Gap Burger Trail In Washington
The Union Gap Burger Trail highlights the best Local Burger Restaurants in Union Gap! Now I am a huge burger fanatic, so I jumped at the chance to forge my own Union Gap Burger trail of excellent burger restaurants in Union Gap, oh, and let’s not forget fries to go with.
Thanks to Union Gap for hosting us so I could take a burger tour this last fall to share with everyone. Regardless all opinions are ours about our experience.
Now, if you want, Union Gap hosts an official burger week every year in February! This year their burger week is February 18-25 2024! This was not my first time to Union Gap; I was able to take a staycation with my girls for a whirlwind 24 hours. Most restaurants will often offer specials during this week at both the local and national chains.
Don’t worry. I took one for the team we hit the restaurants in Union Gap. During our whirlwind PNW trip, I had eight burgers, with six being some of the best Union Gap offers. (Number seven was at Triple XXX in Issaquah on our way to Union Gap… excellent Pit Stop to start the week off, and number 8 at Cowiche Canyon in Yakima )

Now, there are many national chains in Union Gap, but when I travel, I love to find those local small businesses and the local favorites as well. With how large an area I live in, I can already get most national chains at home, so I always go for the unknown.
Miners Burgers
Now, if you have been anywhere in Washington and the topic of the Yakima Valley comes up, this is probably going to be mentioned as the place to eat! I heard about this place from Soccer moms about tournaments hosted in the area. The girls and I ate here on our last trip; the burger was just as good on this trip! I love that they have so many options on the menu for everyone to pick from. (I had a burger, Kylie had a chicken Cesar salad, and Bella had chicken and fries on our trip in 2021)
Now when you are there, I recommend the Big Miner Burger, and in case you are wondering, this third-generation family restaurant has been in business since 1948. Oh, and get the fry sauce. It’s amazing!!

Old Town Pump Saloon
This was my favorite burger place from the trip! Old Town Pump is a bar, so it is 21 years and older, but they offer to take out so you could grab to go for the family. I got the Garlic Burger and Onion tanglers; now Lisa and I shared these, but I wish we had gotten two order because they were amazing topped on my burger and to eat as well! A table of locals splitting buckets of beer had us laughing all night. (They also recommended my other favorite of the trip, Majors, to us!)
The Garlic Cheeseburger is stuffed with garlic, swiss cheese, caramelized shallot, and mushrooms, making the most amazing flavor combination! And listen to me, you need to order the onion tanglers. The locals sitting next to us also said the pound of gizzards is excellent from the menu.

Majors
Everything here was excellent, but the fries and the shakes… do not skip out on those. Now it could be the Midwest girl in me, but with my burgers, I love to dip my fries into a shake. Since we were recommended the shakes here, I went with a peanut butter chocolate shake. It was amazing! The burger was filling, I mean, look at that cheese; the fries were excellent by themselves and with the shakes!
Being a local business, they also specialize in treats based on local agriculture! So be sure to check out their fresh peach milkshakes during the summer months or legendary beer-battered asparagus or deep-fried zucchini.
(Subject to fruit schedules and availability)

Old Town Station
Now you know those restaurants the whole family will visit in town, and the older people will meet for coffee and breakfast? This is that spot in Union Gap. We went at the post-church time, and the restaurant was packed, a great sign of good food. Not only do they have tasty burgers, but they also offer breakfast all day and other comfort food from a classic American diner. Plus, not only do they offer fries with the burger, but they also have tater tots you pair up with your burger!!
Now my pro tip… get the Deep Fried Oreos. This was the perfect way to end our meal there, and they were so good! Old Town Station has been an iconic restaurant since 1979 and is still locally owned and operated.

Jean’s Cottage Inn
Another one of those classic American dinners; I loved they had a wood-burning fireplace in the middle of the restaurant. It was perfect for the chilly fall day, and the food was amazing! The burger was so tasty, and the fry sauce was amazing!
I know this is a burger post, but if you are there for breakfast, you NEED to get French toast. I won’t tell you the secret ingredient, but it was the best I have ever tried. We almost went back for another plate the following day.
Plus, they also sell their seasonings as well. Deccio’s All Purpose Seasoning, Deccio’s Ranch Dressing & Dip, and Deccio’s Salad Topping are all for sale on the Jean’s Cottage Inn Website.

Peppermint Stick Restaurant
Pepp’rmint Stick took me back to one of the retro drive-in restaurants we visited in Idaho with my grandparents. The environment was so much fun, from the jukebox to the retro decor. I ordered a burger with fries and a classic peppermint shake, and Lisa got Wild Card Burger with garlic fries. Everything was excellent and so good to eat! Several other families were dining in while we were there!
As well as being in Union Gap for over 70 years, they host a car show! Check out their website for details on the next one.

We ran out of time (we had to squeeze in James Beard Award-winning tamales at Los Hernandez Tamales for one meal), but these two other burger restaurants are locally owned and recommended for the burger trail.
Gear Jammer
It is hard to find anymore, but this restaurant is open 24 hours a day and serves breakfast all 24 hours. This is also located in the Super 8 motel’s parking lot. Hindsight, I wish I had run over in the middle of the night and tested it out. This is a truck stop, but as the granddaughter of a truck driver, I grew up loving their food. It always means large portions and good food.

James Gang Tavern
This local bar has amazing food and specials on its menu. Another local favorite that out-of-town visitors will love. As well as burgers, they also are supposed to have amazing tacos! (My other weakness)

Shari’s
While this is a PNW Chain restaurant, they are only found in the PNW. Their pies are amazing, but they also have good burgers and breakfast. Their setup is very familiar to Denny’s.
